The National Grange Applauds AT&T and Comcast on the Nation’s First Anti-Robocalling Milestone

On behalf of the 150,000 members of The National Grange, we applaud Comcast and AT&T for their joint efforts in working to address the issue of fraudulent robocalls.

On Wednesday, the companies announced they have completed a successful cross-network test of a new system to authenticate caller ID numbers. The test used the new “SHAKEN” AND “STIR” protocols, which aim to verify that numbers are not being spoofed. Once available to the public, the system will screen incoming calls by phone number to ensure the call is actually coming from the number shown. Calls that pass the test will show up as ‘verified’ and calls that are illegally spoofed will fail the test, and therefore show up as ‘unverified.’

This marks an industry first for calls between separate providers and The National Grange applauds this step in the right direction in the broader effort to combat fraudulent robocalls.
