Ask Your Representative on Energy and Commerce Committee to Support House Concurrent Resolution 424

10/05/06

With the help of Grangers nationwide, the National Grange convinced the House Committee on Agriculture to consider and pass HCR 424. This House Concurrent Resolution states that by January 1, 2025 at least 25 percent of domestic energy needs should be generated from domestic renewable resources while continuing to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food, feed, and fiber.

HCR 424, dubbed 25 x ’25, is co-sponsored by Congressmen Bob Goodlatte (Virginia) and Collin Peterson (Minnesota) and is intended to increase domestic energy production, thus reducing our dependence on imported fuel. General Motors, Food, and Daimler Chrysler have signed a joint letter to Members of Congress urging them to co-sponsor the Congressional resolution.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce is also considering HCR 424. Please contact the members of this Committee and ask them to vote in favor of HCR 424 before the end of this Congressional Session. Members of the Committee are as follows:

Dear Representative ______________.

I am urging the Committee on Energy and Commerce to consider passage of HCR 424. This concurrent resolution, which has already passed the Committee on Agriculture, states that by January 1, 2025 at least 25 percent of domestic energy needs should be generated from domestic renewable resources while continuing to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food, feed, and fiber.

Accelerated development and use of renewable energy technologies will provide numerous benefits to the United States, including improved national security, improved balance of payments, healthier rural economies, improved environmental quality, and abundant, reliable, and affordable energy for all citizens of the United States. Please enact HCR 424 to promote domestic energy production.

Sincerely,

(Signature)
