Senate
Joint Resolution 4, Flag Protection Amendment is now stalled in the Senate Judiciary
Committee. The Committee members are refusing to show up for a vote thereby blocking
the bill process to the full Senate vote. Next week Congress goes on its summer
recess until early September, so your prompt action is needed right now.
S.J.
Res. 4 reads: "The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical
desecration of the flag of the United States." The
National Grange's policy statement on the protection of the U.S. flag is as follows:
The
National Grange opposes the desecration of the American flag, with the act of
desecration being classified as a federal felony and the penalty being strictly
enforced with no exception. If this law is not upheld, we urge Congress to pass
a constitutional amendment that will ban the desecration of the American Flag.
Please
contact your Senators today to urge them to take a quick action to SJR 4 and pass
it to the full Senate vote Immediately! Contact

Letter: | Dear
Sen._________:
I
am writing to urge you to move quickly SJR 4, Flag Protection Amendment to the
full Senate vote. Although, the amendment has passed the House of Representatives
five consecutive times and enjoys majority support in your chamber, a few senators
are determined to keep it off the floor for a vote until after the election. Protection
of the flag of the United States is an American tradition. It is a matter that
goes right to the heart of the value that society places on Old Glory. It's time
to let the people of America decide if their flag deserves the protection of their
Constitution. Please get the flag amendment out of committee, onto the floor of
the Senate, as soon as possible.
Sincerely, (Signature) (Name)__________________________ (Grange/Grange
