the FCC's Decision Approving the Use of "F" Word on TV and Radio! The Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) approved last October the use of the "F" word
for use on any TV show or radio program, anytime day or night. Click

complaints objected to Bono's uttering the phrase "This is really, really, f------
brilliant." | |
During
the Golden Globe Awards ceremony on January 19, 2003, which was broadcasted by
NBC-TV, a rock star used the "F" word during part of his acceptance speech for
an award he received.
Conservative social issue groups have been complaining to the FCC on this matter
over the course of the year. However, FCC's Enforcement Bureau released the October
3 Ruling, which approves the use of "F" word on TV and radio, in reaction
to those complaints. The FCC's view is that the rock singer's "fleeting and isolated
use" of "F" word was not obscene because it did not "appeal to prurient interest."
The
National Grange has supported cleaning up the foul language and obscenities used
on TV, radio, or in public places. We are concerned that the FCC's decision might
open floodgates of indecency and obscenity on TV and radio. Please speak up and
voice your disagreement with this decision. Action
Plan --- Please e-mail the five FCC commissioners to express your opposition
to the FCC's decision which approves the use of "F" word on TV and radio. Sample
letter:Dear
__________: I
am very disappointed in a recent decision of the Federal Communications Commission
in approving the use of the "F" word for use on any TV show or radio program,
anytime day or night. According to the FCC, the word can be used whenever desired
except in sexual situations. The
FCC has the responsibility of enforcing what constitutes decency on our nation's
airwaves. This must be stopped now. Please
reconsider this decision! Sincerely, (Name)__________________________ (Grange/Grange
