| It
is critical that United States Congress adopt sound national energy legislation,
but the Senate is currently debating proposed amendments to the energy plan that
will increase demand and the cost of our nation's already strained natural gas
supply and threatened serious power shortages. (Click
here to review the amendments) We
need an effective national energy plan that will increase the use of abundant
domestic energy sources, enhance energy conservation and efficiency, improve energy
infrastructure, and promote advanced energy technologies. These harmful amendments,
though, will hurt the economy, push up energy prices, and threaten energy supplies.
Contact your
senators and ask them to VOTE NO on:
- mandatory federal regulation
of greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide emissions and reporting
-
mandatory use of renewable energy sources to generate electricity, the Renewable
Portfolio Standard (RPS)
The
National Grange's policy supports the expansion of "voluntary" efforts to limit
greenhouse gas emissions and greater (not mandatory) use of natural resources,
especially those that are renewable and non-polluting. (Click
here to review our conservation policy) As
the Senate considers S. 14, the Energy Policy Act of 2003 (Click
here to review the bill) it must reject these amendments that restrict energy
supplies, increase energy costs, and threaten American jobs and the economy. The
amendments take various forms and their sponsors describe them in seemingly favorable
terms, but ultimately they will all have common, unacceptable consequences.

YOU CAN HELP | | Contact
your U.S. Senators and Senate Leadership. Strongly urge them to adopt sound national
