| The
National Grange National President, Kermit Richardson, sent a letter to President
Bush Regarding Grange's position on the war with Iraq. His letter is as follows: March
27, 2003 The
Honorable George W. Bush Executive Office of the President 1600 Pennsylvania
Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear
President Bush: When
we last contacted you in January regarding your State of the Union Address, the
National Grange expressed support for whatever actions you deemed necessary to
meet the threat of an impending war with Iraq. Although it has been nearly a week
since the war has begun and there have been a number of casualties, we would like
you to be aware that the National Grange gives its unwavering support to your
administration and the troops currently in Iraq. Regardless
of whatever personal feelings we may have regarding war, the National Grange firmly
believes that all Americans must present a united front in support of the brave
men and women who are risking their lives to ensure the freedom and safety of
Americans and the citizens of Iraq. This is why we urge all Grangers to stand
behind you when you stated in your State of the Union Address, that "whatever
action is required, whenever action is necessary, I will defend the freedom and
security of the American people." We
are sure that you, like all Americans, are hoping that this situation will be
resolved as quickly as possible, that the Iraqi people will be able to enjoy the
freedom that has eluded them since Saddam Hussein came into power. The National
Grange wants you to be aware that we hold you, your administration, our troops
and the Iraqi people in our thoughts and prayers. Furthermore, we are hoping that
this situation will be resolved in a timely manner, minimizing the loss of innocent
lives and creating a world that is safer from the threats of terrorism and a world
that is more peaceful for all its inhabitants. Sincerely,
Kermit Richardson
