New
Delaware State Grange President Elected WASHINGTON,
January 6, 2005 - The
Delaware State Grange delegates elected William H. "Chip" Narvel Jr. as their
new State Grange President on December 3, 2004. The Delaware State Grange was
organized on March 2, 1875. Since its creation, it has been committed to advocating
on behalf of farm and non-farm individuals and families living in rural communities
with regard to a wide variety of legislative, economic, educational, and family
issues. The Grange is also well known for its commitment to community service.
In
2005, the Delaware State Grange will work to better the "First State's" communities
and assist people in need. In addition, it will join with Granges from 37 other
states to bring issues of concern to the U.S. Congress 's attention. Some of the
issues include: expanding telecommunication services to rural areas, achieving
energy security in rural areas, and improving rural medical and education facilities.
"We
are excited about Chip's election as State Grange President because he will help
the Grange continue its good works and make rural America a better place to live,
work, and play," National Grange President William Steel said. Narvel
is a third generation Granger. He began his Grange career in the Junior Grange,
which provides leadership programs to school-age children between 5 and 14 years
old. For 43 years, he has held several positions in community and county Granges
throughout Delaware. Before assuming the role of President, Narvel served as the
Vice President of the Delaware State Grange. Narvel
is currently employed at the Dupont Company in Wilmington, Delaware, where he
has worked for 35 years in the reprographics group. He serves as a senior reprographics
specialist, managing a reprographics copy center. Narvel
and his wife, Barbara, have been married for 30 years and have four children and
one grandson. Barbara and he have shared the responsibilities of Grange Youth
Directors, heading programs for young adults ages 14-21, for the past 10 years.
Away from Grange activities, Narvel enjoys camping with his family and coaching
girls high school and amateur fast-pitch softball, which he has been doing for
more than 20 years. To
