Grange Master Lends Helping Hand to Community Grange
Washington,
January 22, 2004 - National Grange Master William A. Steel volunteered at
the Valley Grange's (Pennsylvania) milkshake booth at the Pennsylvania Farm Show,
which raised more than $40,000 to support the Grange's operating expenses and
a variety of community projects.
With
the proceeds generated by the booth, the Valley Grange will be able to continue
its support of several community projects and organizations, including New Life
for Girls, a church-operated drug rehabilitation facility for women with children,
and ARMS, a religious organization that provides living quarters and assistance
for handicapped adults.
In addition, the Grange will be able to continue providing local fire and police
departments with automated external defibrillators and host an annual Bicycle
Safety Derby. Operating
the milkshake booth at the annual event, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania
Dairymen's Association, takes about 100 people. This year, the Valley Grange operated
two booths from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. from January 10-17, 2004. The Valley Grange will
honor its volunteers by hosting an appreciation dinner in March 2004. "It
is always a pleasure to lend a helping hand to a Grange," Master Steel said. "The
Grange is the community, and I am proud that Community Granges are working hard
to benefit the community." The
Pennsylvania Farm Show is an annual family event with a variety of agricultural-related
activities, shows and contests. This year, more than 400,000 attendees took in
the festivities. Valley Grange #1360 has been operating a booth at the show for
more than 50 years. |
