Local
Granges Can Help Seniors Understand Medicare The
Grange's Medicare-Approved Prescription Drug Discount Card Educational Program
Helps Rural Seniors Lower Their Prescription Drug Cost
Washington,
June 2, 2004 - The National Grange announced today a new program for local
Granges to include in their program selection - The Grange Medicare-Approved
Prescription Drug Discount Card Educational Program. The new program is designed
to help seniors understand how Medicare-approved drug discount cards work and
to help seniors choose the right card for their own needs. Currently,
seniors spend an average of $2,100 a year on prescription drugs - that's $175
a month. By adding the Grange's new program, Granges can help members of their
community find relief from excessive prescription drug costs. The National Grange
will supply the materials and information required to help seniors make informed
decisions about drug discount cards, but for the program to truly work, local
Granges need to embrace it. Granges
will be able to participate in up to three different programs: Program
1 - Spreading the Word to Communities Granges that participate
in Program 1 will: -
Distribute fact sheets and posters to community senior centers, senior housing
communities, libraries, churches, senior events or any place where seniors frequent,
as well as have available at Grange halls.
Program
2 - Educating Communities Granges that participate in Program 2
will: - Host
a community meeting to conduct a pre-designed informational session for Granges
and community members. The National Grange will provide Granges with an instructional
guide on how to conduct the session, which includes a 15-minute PowerPoint or
overhead presentation, a presentation guide, a narrative script and fact sheets
for distribution.
Program
3 - Sharing with Communities Granges that participate in Program
3 will: - Provide
Medicare drug discount card information when Granges participate in town, county
and state fairs. The National Grange will provide Granges with a counter sign
and a banner for fair booths, as well as fact sheets to distribute at booths.
The
National Grange is only able to offer these programs to a limited number of Granges.
If your Grange is interested, please complete the registration form and return
it to the National Grange. Upon
completing the program, Granges will be asked to complete an evaluation form.
Once the National Grange receives the form, it will recognize participating Granges
with special a certificate (Program 1) or a plaque (Program 2 and 3) that can
be displayed in Grange Halls. To
